Spreading Pogonia

Cleistesiopsis

 divaricata

The beautiful pink Spreading Pogonia (Cleistesiopsis divaricata), also known as the Rosebud Orchid, is distinguished by a single large leaf, a bearded lip, and three light purple sepals that spread outward. Found in wet flatwoods of the southeastern United States and northeastern Florida, it blooms in April and May, most profusely after a fire. The similar Coastal Plain Pogonia (C. oricamporum) in northern Florida has a much shorter lip and column than this Spreading Pogonia.
