The Pale Grasspink (Calopogon pallidus) of the southeastern United States has one of the longest blooming seasons of Florida’s orchids, with up to three white to pale pink flowers blooming simultaneously. As its common name indicates, the flowers have a paler coloration than the darker pink of Florida’s other three Grasspinks: Manyflowered Grasspink, Tuberous Grasspink, and Bearded Grasspink. It can also be separated from the other species by side petals that sweep backward. Calopogon means having a beautiful beard, describing the bristles on the orchid’s lip.
