Fungi and Lichens

Fungi and Lichens do not actually belong to the Plant Kingdom, but have been included with the plants for convenience. As we are not experts in the identification of mushrooms or lichens, the species names are not authoritative and should be taken as our best guess only. In fact, many mushrooms cannot be identified by images alone and require spore prints, chemical reactions, and DNA analysis to confirm their identification. Never eat a mushroom unless an expert standing beside you says it is safe!

The Florida Museum of Natural Museum has a Field Oriented Keys to the Florida Lichens by Roger Rosentreter, Ann DeBolt, and Laurel Kaminsky which includes most of the commonly seen lichens in Florida.
