Yellow Fringed Orchid

Platanthera

 ciliaris

The Yellow Fringed Orchid (Platanthera ciliaris) is a flaming torch of bright orange flowers with long yellow fringes that adorns the wet flatwoods and pitcherplant savannas from late summer to autumn. This is the most widespread of the orange to yellow orchids in the United States, actually extending into Canada. The flowers have the longest spurs of this group. The genus Platanthera describes its flat anthers and the species name ciliaris describes the finely fringed lip which resembles eyelashes.
