Whitemouth Dayflower

Commelina

 erecta

Whitemouth Dayflower (Commelina erecta), found in the eastern two-thirds of the United States, thrives in Florida’s uplands where it blooms from May to October. Its spectacular blue flowers bloom in the early morning and wilt by noon. Commelina has flowers with three petals, two of which are showy, while the third is inconspicuous, as was the case for the three Commenlin brothers, one of whom died before accomplishing anything noteworthy like his famous sibling botanists.
